What is a niche? Websters defines it as : a place, employment, status, or activity for which a person or
thing is best fitted <finally found her niche>
One wants to start his or her own business, so it would seem logical that one should find their NICHE.
This is the point where we tend to make a costly mistake. By this I mean we tend to look for the get rich quick road, and
thus bypassing the Niche we already hold.
We have stated in earlier issues, that most businesses fail within the first year. Sad isn't it?, but
sadly true. There will be several reasons in most cases why our business did not fare very well. We will name a few just to
validate this point.
1. If it sounds to good to be true!, yep, you know the rest. But we sometimes continue to fall
in this pit everytime we are presented with the idea.
2. Failing to do the research. Prove the validity of the product or service, and the company promoting
the service. Determine the start up cost, advertisement cost, and support.
3. Competition level. How many individuals are providing the same service? Remember, you can do
market research own your own! It is as simple as asking friends, neighbors, and doing a search on the net.
4. Happiness Factor. Can you see yourself doing this business?, and most important, will you find
enjoyment in this business? If your not happy, one will not stay in it in the long haul.
This brings us to our NICHE. GOD has blessed each and everyone of us with a talent or talents. For years
I kept running from my niche!. I had always been involved in electronics and repairing equipment, and it had always provided
a living for my family. When I finally started to look into starting my own business, I researched every business I could
find, other than looking at what GOD had given me the talent. I finally realized that electronics repair was my business.
I had only been looking at the surface! I continued to expand the business in several braches of electronics.
Your niche is right there in front of you, waiting for you to take it to the next level. Where do you
find your niche?. You might want to look at the hobbies that you are in involved with. Some people love to scrapbook.
Why not take this idea to next level and provide a service for others! Maybe your great at marketing, look at consulting.
One's niche and love may be in cars. Take that to the next level, restoration, repair, and so on. Take a look at the work
you are doing now, and possibly do the same in the private sector.
Take stock of oneself and see all the things your good at and enjoy doing, and one will most likely find
one's NICHE!
